Yongin · DRAM cluster accelerated by 12 years
SK Hynix has been optimising the construction schedule of the Yongin semiconductor cluster to meet the rapidly growing DRAM demand. The company has accelerated the timeline, aiming to complete the fourth fab by 2033 — a full 12 years ahead of the original 2045 target. With phased investments in manufacturing facilities and production equipment, total investment in the Yongin cluster is expected to reach 600 trillion KRW.
Cheongju · NAND flash & advanced packaging
SK Hynix also plans to expand NAND flash capacity with a 100 trillion KRW investment in Cheongju. This will fund new NAND flash fabs, manufacturing equipment, and advanced packaging capabilities for HBM back‑end processing — transforming Cheongju into an integrated manufacturing hub encompassing NAND flash, HBM flash, and advanced packaging technologies.
📍 Southwestern region · new semiconductor cluster
SK Hynix plans to invest 400 trillion KRW in the southwestern region of South Korea to build a new semiconductor cluster. The investment will be carried out in phases, covering land acquisition, fab construction, and production‑equipment installation. The region is expected to provide the large‑scale site and supporting infrastructure — including reliable power and water supply — needed for SK Hynix’s next manufacturing hub.
This strategic decision reflects SK Hynix’s proactive response to the rapid growth in global AI memory demand. Building on its existing production bases in Icheon and Cheongju, the company is expanding its footprint to Yongin and further to the southwestern region, positioning itself for the next leap forward.
